Since 2020, PoolTogether has built a no-loss lottery protocol that turns savings into a game. By partnering with Candide InstaGas, they have eliminated gas barriers for new users depositing through ERC-20 tokens like USDC.
“PoolTogether is driven by its mission to create financial freedom for all.” — Tjark, PoolTogether Collective Governor
The Problem: Gas as a Gate
Traditional Web3 apps require native ETH for transaction fees. For someone new to crypto, that is a confusing obstacle before they even reach the product. PoolTogether previously forced users to leave the app, visit an exchange, acquire ETH, navigate wallet top-ups, and then return. Many never came back.
The protocol’s no-loss model is simple to understand. The path to using it was not.
What InstaGas Made Possible
With Candide InstaGas, PoolTogether now sponsors transaction fees entirely. Users deposit USDC without ever acquiring ETH. The UX collapses to a single action.
Two concrete improvements followed:
Seamless onboarding. New users are no longer dropped into a gas acquisition detour mid-signup. The abandonment point is gone.
Broader reach. By abstracting gas completely, PoolTogether can now reach users who would never navigate the native-token hurdle on their own.
Gas Sponsorship Policies
PoolTogether configured precise rules to protect the integrity of their liquidity pools:
- Minimum deposit requirements
- Batched transaction requirements (approve and deposit together)
- Per-transaction spending caps
- Daily transaction limits
- Account-level maximums
These guardrails ensure sponsorship dollars flow to genuine depositors, not edge cases or abuse.
Frontend Implementation
Using Viem and Wagmi libraries, the Cabana frontend team added gasless functionality with minimal code changes by leveraging two open standards:
- ERC-5792: Batch transaction communication between apps and wallets
- ERC-7677: Gas sponsorship context for wallets
“Integrating new UX features was incredibly straightforward. We implement batching with minimal effort.” — Ncookie, Lead Engineer, PoolTogether Cabana
The team did not need to rebuild their frontend. They extended what was already there.
Current Deployment
PoolTogether is currently piloting one-click gasless deposits on OP Mainnet (Optimism), targeting reduced onboarding churn and increased deposit velocity. The results from this pilot will inform broader rollout across additional chains.
